Facility overview
Located 560 kilometres north of Adelaide, Olympic Dam is one of the world’s most significant deposits of copper, gold, silver and uranium. Olympic Dam is made up of underground and surface operations and operates a fully integrated processing facility from ore to metal. The underground mine is made up of more than 450 kilometres of underground roads and tunnels. Olympic Dam SCM21 project is a major project involving maintenance of the copper smelter at Olympic Dam. The project is essentially a major deconstruct and reconstruct endeavour scheduled around statutory requirements (annual boiler and service) and furnace lining and repair/replacement – focusing on rebuild of the electric slag furnace, the flash furnace and the electrostatic precipitator. SCM21 is the first major Shutdown at the the Olympic Dam Facility since 2017. This fall inline with plant and process compliance and regulatory inspection requirements.
